First Glimpses

Finally after 6 years of begging (on Marianna's part) and promising (on my part) South Africa was in view. When our wheels touched down my face lit up and I could not WAIT to be on the same
continent at last as my dear sister and friend! Felt so surreal to actually be in Africa!
We went directly to the family farm and met Marianna's parents and refreshed ourselves!
Marianna took us to her young adults group - where I was excited to meet her friends
and experience a little bit of her life!
It's one thing to talk about it with someone for so long, it's a whole other thing to be IN it and truly EXPERIENCE it!
She also organized a Braai (BBQ)! After she had bragged that their Braai's where something out of this world, I was literally dying to try it! It was comical - after Marshal found out this was my first experience and my expectations were through the roof he refused to do the actually Braaing - the substitute was just as good (I'm sure) :)
The roads were way better than I was expecting as well as most other things. South Africa was NOTHING like I had preconceived or even been fed from sources.
Marianna took us to Hyveld zip lining - although the lines were short and slow, the guides (DANGER and 1KG) and girls on the zip-ling tour made it exciting!
I also had my first taste of traditional African cuisine here!
Jenelle and Chris made it to the farm a few days later and I was more than excited to get a hug from both of them!
These two mean so much to me - Jenelle has walked through everything with me and I am so glad that she has picked an amazing guy so now we're a pretty sweet group!
Jenelle and Chris went to bed early (a regular occurrence) and Marianna and I were finally able to get caught up on life - it's amazing how much changes over the years without really realizing it as we go about the seemingly MUNDANE events of each and every day, but looking back - it's beautiful to see where He has brought us and all the things He has done in and through our lives! So thankful for this beautiful friend!

  1. I laughed at Jenelle and Chris going to bed early. Maybe it's a married thing cause we do it too, although we have kids now and that makes a difference too :)

I Am Your Shield

This is a song that has been a great encouragement to me and so I wanted to share it with all of you, hoping that it will minister to you and encourage you on... even during the dark times! May He give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of those secret places!  I Am Your Shield Rachel Wissman My child are you discouraged  By the sorrows of the day Does it seem like life is crumbing The skies have turned to grey Don’t forget I gave you promises to guide you every hour In the moment of your heartbreak Let me show you my great power   And I will be your shield When the battle rages on And I will be your light when the way ahead is dark I will be your strong tower And guide you every hour Just place your life completely in my hand I know it won’t be easy I never said it would But my grace will always be there My plans for you are good Remember that your weaknesses are perfect in my sight Only when you yield them to ...

Christmas Preparations & Finishing up Second Semester

2017 seemed to be a year full of new adventures and "firsts"! I hadn't been home for all the hustle and bustle of Christmas for 5 years and boy did I ever miss it! Starbucks and studying for finals filled my December Experiencing and practicing out skills out in the "field" - preparing us for our final practical Something I've really missed doing - hanging the Christmas lights out at the farm! South Africa 2016

This is a super overdue post and I struggled to find the pictures I wanted to add, but here is what I came up with...ENJOY! I surprised my younger brother by purchasing an airline ticket months in advance, but waited to tell him he was coming with me till a week or so before. He had been talking about wanting to travel with me to South Africa, and I was so glad that it worked out! You're never too young to experience these things in life! James (and clan) dropped us off at the airport - So appreciated this, as parking and flying wasn't the most ideal for a four week trip. I booked our layover for Switzerland as I had a friend I wanted to visit, as well as Switzerland had been on my bucket list of places to explore! My friend picked us up from the airport and brought us back to her place for breakfast and a quick shower! She had the whole day planned out so well. We visited the Carma Chocolate Academy  which is where they make and produce the chocolate for all...
